All this talk about the $3/$15 CVS coupon got me to thinking. When I first saw it, I was very excited. When I read the fine print, I was a little confused, but so many of the couponers that I have been following were so excited about it, I figured it must be ok to use it.
But there was that feeling in the back of my head that this felt "dirty". I commented on a blog that reviews comments before posting, and my comment was ignored (I figured it was because I touched a sore spot...), so I felt even more uncomfortable with the coupon.
Then The New Frugal Mom posted on how she was uncomfortable using the coupon, so at least I knew I wasn't alone in my thoughts.
So I wrote CVS.
Here's the letter I got back:
Dear Sarah Gomez,
I have looked into this, and you should be able to print out that coupon and use it in a CVS/pharmacy location. Each store has the final decision as to what coupons it accepts, but I did verify it was acceptable to print this out and use it.
Also, you may want to look into the Washington Post Points program if you are a Washington Post subscriber as well as an ExtraCare member, as we are one of the participating vendors. Please visit:

Thank you for contacting CVS/pharmacy ExtraCare. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact us either by e-mail or by calling (800) 746-7287.

Target Deals :)
I made a couple trips to Target in the past couple of days. I had yet to use Target coupons, so I was interested in seeing how it went. I had a bunch of the Target printables for Lipton Tea and for the O-Cel-O scrubber pads. I also had a bunch of 3M man. coupons for Lint sheets. I didn't use them all, because, being my first time with coupons, I didn't want to run tons of things through and then find out that they don't take internet coupons.
Here's what I came up with.
We needed latex gloves for cleaning the apartment before we move, so I grabbed a bag (with no coupon for $3.99.
3M Lint sheets were on clearance for .68 (I had $1 coupons... OVERAGE!!) - Got 5
Lipton To Go - .99 ($1 coupon --- OVERAGE) - Got 5
O-Cel-O scrubbers -clearance .56 ($1 coupons... OVERAGE) - there were 4, but I only grabbed 3 - don't know why.
Total before clearance price and coupons $31.26
Total after clearance sales $14.02
Total OOP after sales and coupons $1.80!!! (Less than the bag of gloves that I needed!)
TRIP #2
Today, my DH and I went back to Target. He picked up a few shirts and a pair of pants. I picked up a summer tee. Those things were greatly needed (and all on sale)
Then we got Lays Cracker Crisps with a $1 Target Q and a $1 Man Q (total remaining $.50)
We picked up the rest of the 3M lint sheets with $1 for each (.32 overage on each)
We looked for more O-Cel-O scrubbers but the clearance ones were gone
With the clothes, it doesn't look like that great a deal, and I don't remember what the total was anyway, but it was a pretty good trip!

Rite Aid Question
SEASONED RITE-AIDERs, I NEED YOU!!
Ok - I have only ever purchased one thing at Rite Aid before, and it was this month, so I haven't sent the SCR in yet. So I have no idea how this works.
It seems that there is a SCR on Biore/Jergens/Curel this month (buy $20, get $10SCR), as well as they are on BOGO 50% off. here's my question:
I have $2.00/2 for Biore, $1.50/1 Curel, and $1/1 Jergens.
To get the SCR, what has to be more than $20? Before coupons? Or total after coupons?
For example, which scenario is correct?
Scenario 1: (Made up prices, I don't know real ones)
buy 2 Curels @ 5.00
buy 2 Jergens @ 5.00
That equals $20.
Then comes BOGO50% -$5.00
Then comes coupons
use (2) $1.50/1 curel -$3.00
use (2) $1/1 Jergens -$2.00
TOTAL = $10 (which I get all back as SCR)
OR
Scenario 2: (Same made up prices)
buy 2 Curls @ 5.00
buy 2 Jergens @ 5.00
buy 2 Biore @ 8.00
That equals $36
THen comes BOGO50% 9
Then comes coupons
use (2) $1.50/1 curel -$3.00
use (2) $1/1 Jergens -$2.00
use (1) $2/2 Biore -$2.00
TOTAL: $20 (of which I would get $10 back as SCR)

CVS for good :)
My CVS savings have been used for good already! Hooray!! I've told my husband to make sure that if I begin stockpiling too much, I am giving away what we can't reasonably use (our new home does not have a great deal of storage space). Well, I've had opportunity to share my good fortune already. Yesterday, it rained HARD where I live and our street flooded. My guesstimate would be that it was a good 1.5-2 feet at its deepest points. At first, cars were trying to get through it, until eventually the police got there and wouldn't allow anyone through. Unfortunately for my new "friend", they didn't get there before she tried to get her little car across. It got water logged and shut off mid "puddle." We were watching the excitement from our second floor apartment window, and saw another couple of people help push her out of the road and into our parking lot. I overheard them talking and heard her say that she had friends just up the street and she would call them. So I didn't worry about her. She was taken care of.
20 minutes later, rain harder, thunder and lightning louder, I realized she was still sitting out there in her car! I told my husband I was going to see if she wanted to come up and dry off while she waited for whomever she was waiting. Poor girl, when I got there, she was streaming tears, talking to her dad on the phone. I'm very glad I did not assume she was taken care of. She came up, calmed down, and dried off. It was a good 45 minutes before her parents got there to get her and see what they could do about the car. Unfortunately, it still wouldn't start, so she borrowed our internet to find some phone numbers for road side assistance and was on her way...
But not until I gave her a big bag of M&Ms to melt her troubles away :) Haha, I know it was small and didn't REALLY do anything to fix the situation, but it brought a smile to her face! I'm glad we were able to be there for her, even if it was just a warm/dry place with tasty M&Ms while she waited for "real help" to arrive :)

No coupons?? and 4/20-4/26 CVS plan
NEWBIE ALERT!!! :)
I was a little disappointed this afternoon when I flipped through the newspaper for the coupon inserts. ONE!?!? Where is the Red Plum? Where is the P&G? I only got the SmartSource one. I even got the more expensive paper because last week I got the cheap paper and only found one insert, so I guessed that the more expensive (wider spread) paper must just carry more. Did anyone else find that there were more than just the Smart Source in their papers? (I was mostly disappointed because we only get the paper for the coupons... Sigh. I might call the paper tomorrow and find out if that's all there was or if mine was missing some.
It is POURING in my town right now, and my husband is resting after a long morning at church, so I'm sitting at my computer, pouring over the ads and the blogs to see what kind of deals I can come up with. Here's my plan for this week. Nothing overly spectacular really. Just hoping to increase the ECBs a bit for more flexibility for next week (when I have already heard of some great sales!)
Mennon Speed Stick 24/7 Deoderant for DH - $3.99 with $1 coupon printable (can't find the link -- maybe it's gone), get $3 ECB back
EOB gift bags $1.49 each, buy 3 get $5 ECB, slight overage
Alavert allergy meds $6.99 with $4.00 printable coupon. Hidden deal - get $4 ECB - if it works, it's a deal :) I'll go with a few coupons but just try one first.
That's about it for me for this week. That should leave me with some ECB to play with next week. I haven't worked out my transactions for this yet. I will edit when I come up with the best deal.
EDIT: Here's the plan, assuming I can get the three coupons printed -- I don't have a printer at home :(
Transaction 1:
Buy 1 Alavert @ $6.99
Use 1 $4.00 Q
Use $3.00 ECB I have already
=FREE plus $4.00 ECB
Transaction 2:
Buy 1 Alavert @ $6.99
1 EOB gift bag (finally FOUND them while waiting in a long line. They are the perfect fillers for this week. $1.49
Use $4.00 Q
Use $4.00 ECB from above
= .46 + tax, get $4.00 ECB
Transaction 3:
Duplicate of above
Transaction 4:
Buy 1 Mennon 24/7 Speed Stick for Men @ $3.99
1 EOB bag @ $1.49
Use $1 24/7 Q
Use $4.00 from above
= .46 + tax, get $5 and $3.99 ECBs
Total OOP = $1.32 + tax with $8.99 ECBs in my pocket (an increase of $5.99)

My husband thinks I'm mad
Warning: CVS is addicting -- very very addicting. DO NOT sign up for an Extra Bucks savings card unless you are ready to save LOTS OF MONEY. Read on.
My husband and I recently purchased our first new home. Moving day is only a little less than 4 weeks away. Along with the excitement of the move and owning our own home comes a very much so tightened budget. That is why I was so excited when I found all the blogs of women (and a few men) who have learned to maneuver through the CVS system. Although it has only been a few weeks since I began reading, and even more recently that I began attempting to shop at CVS, I have already saved more than $75, I'm sure.
Here's how I started out:
Good week to start - I bought 5 boxes of Excedrin @ 1.99 with $2 coupons that were giving $1 ECBs back. So right away, I was ahead $5 in ECB. I rolled that into a couple more transactions and ended up with 2 Trublend Covergirl foundations (which I won't wear, but the deal actually gave me a better hand in ECBs, so I'll give them away), 3 Sunsilk shampoos, 2 Dove shampoos, a pack of Stride gum, a pack of Breathsaver mints, and 2 large size chocolate bars for $1.51 OOP. Since I needed Shampoo anyway and probably would have spent $3 on that previously, this was amazing to me. Plus, I came home with $5 in ECB.
The following week, there was nothing really that I needed, but I was so excited, I just wanted to roll ECBs! haha. I stopped in the other day and spent my $5 ECB on 2 14oz M&Ms (BOGO with $3ECB/2 bags) and a coke for my husband.
That night, we ended up going back and getting another 2 bags of M&Ms (BOGO with $3ECB/2bags), so it came to $0.29. The next day, as I was driving by, my car mysteriously pulled in to pick up another 2 bags of M&Ms (can you tell I like M&Ms???? but 2 bags for $.29 -- why not!!!)
So that is the extent of my CVSing days (thus far) This week, I have some ideas rolling in my head. And I have many ideas for the deals coming up in May.
